Taylor gets a credit on DESIGNING WOMEN I've never seen before . Beginning credit is "also starring Meshach Taylor." Then at the end the first credit is "also starring Meshach Taylor." The four women stars don't get an end credit. Has any other regular cast actor been given such credits?

The four women stars don't get an end credit. Has any other regular cast actor been given such credits? Initially, in the show's first and second season, he was not included in the opening credits (unless they slapped on a different opening for syndication), probably because he was not in every episode. He was billed at the end with a special credit. He was then upgraded to full-time cast member and started appearing in every episode during the third season.
He had some high-profile roles in films in the mid-1980s, so that probably helped ensure he get the special 'also starring' credit. In the pecking order of Hollywood, motion picture success is ranked over television success.
At the beginning of the sixth season, after Delta Burke's departure, Dixie Carter's name appeared first in the opening credits, followed by Annie Potts and the rest of them. However, Dixie was not the highest paid. Annie was, because like Meshach, she'd had considerable motion picture credits already (she was in PRETTY IN PINK and the GHOSTBUSTERS flicks).

Wanted to post an additional note before I forget...when I was hanging around the Designing Women set in late 1991 and early 1992, during the show's sixth season (which was also its highest rated), I would sometimes get a chance to talk to some of the cast and crew. As expected, a few of them were a bit stand-off-ish, but not Meshach Taylor. He was very gracious and generous with his time, between scenes.
One evening, during a taping (really, filming, since this series was shot on film not videotape), things were running quite late. Typically, an episode started filming at 6 p.m. and was done by midnight. But this particular evening, there were a lot of production glitches and filming was not completed until almost 2 a.m. Never once did Meschach show signs of fatigue or annoyance. He was the utmost professional, very friendly and cheerful.
It was mid-December 1991, and this would be the last episode they did before taking a month off for the holidays. An extra script was lying around. Meschach grabbed it and signed his name on the cover page, and included a written wish for me to have a merry Christmas. I never forgot how nice and kind he was.

I would have guessed he was friendly. Some actors: part of their personality comes through the camera.
