ESCAPE with Norma Shearer and Conrad Veidt tonight on TCM
I've never seen it and just set the DVR. Thank you. You're welcome, Fading Fast, and it will be my first viewing since I became a fan of Norma Shearer.

I agree. I've often thought he should change his name from Topbilled to Mr. Movie as he has such a depth and breadth of knowledge and shares it so graciously and tirelessly on this site.

ESCAPE with Norma Shearer and Conrad Veidt tonight on TCM
I've never seen it and just set the DVR. Thank you. I hope you enjoyed it or will when watch, Fading Fast... Unless I misheard, Ben Mankiewicz's intro nor outro of ESCAPE included mention of Norma Shearer's conversion to Judaism in order to marry Irving Thalberg. I mention this as Mankiewicz only presented one (cynical) reason for Shearer, despite co-billing with Robert Taylor, having taken a lesser role for its serious subject matter. I suggest that Shearer, who remained loyal to the memory of Irving Thalberg, may well have felt a duty to offer herself to the anti-Nazi Germany cause. Rabbi Edgar Magnin is seen with Shearer and Thalberg at their wedding in 1927:

Paul Thomas Anderson visits the San Fernando Valley T CM's second feature of Paul Thomas Anderson's Bugsy MALONE/ "THE BAD NEWS Bears" pairing tonight has me wondering if the LICORICE PIZZA director mentions both Sammi Kane Kraft, who played the Amanda Whurlitzer remake character, and Alana HAIM who was hit hard by the death of her best friend at the time...

I'm looking forward to it.

Friday, 6/14/24 5:30pm ET on TCM:
FRIENDLY PERSUASION (1956)
Wonderfully entertaining blend of comedy and drama from William Wyler. Next to A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN, this is my favorite Dorothy McGuire performance.
The film also stars Gary Cooper, Anthony Perkins, Robert Middleton, Marjorie Main, and a scene stealing Samantha the Goose. Don't miss it!
