Oh thanks, Fading Fast! I never know how to find anything that isn't on YouTube. Whichever one starts is fine with me.
I'm extremely interested in seeing what you and Topbilled think of this one (and anyone else who'll join us.) I stumbled on it one night and went back to watch it again the next day and I'm still unsure about it. It's different.

I read half of IMDB's short summary as I want to let the story unfold fresh for me Sunday, but your comments, the little I read about it, IMDB's rating and Joan Fontaine all make me hopefully.

I'm looking forward to this one. I recorded it off TCM several years ago but for some reason did not got around to watching it.
I see that Mady Christians appears in it. She was also in ALL MY SONS the same year. These were her last films as she was soon blacklisted. Sadly her career never recovered and she died in 1951.

E.g., is it Fontaine's best performance? I think so, but as a film, I don't know how to rank it as compared to other films with Fontaine. As you note there is a unique quality to the film and therefor a must-see for fans of Fontaine (which I am).

Fawn: "You know I don't like to complain."
Me: "Yeah, you're good that way."
Fawn: "And I've mentioned this before, nicely."
Me: "Go on, get to the point."
Fawn: "During the movie, do you have to type so loudly?"
Me: "Really, you're complaining that I type too loudly?"
Fawn: "I know, as a kid, you started chiselling on stone tablets and eventually moved to mechanical typewriters where you need to give the keys a good whack to make an impression on the paper, but these laptop keyboards only need a light touch."
Me: "'Stone tablets', nice. I'll try to type softer today. Anything else?"
Fawn: "No, that should be good. Oh, did you remember to get us the Sno-Caps you love?"
Me: Sigh.

Hi, all. Just hit play. I am going to have to remember to pick up Necco wafers one of these weeks, but I know the Fawn will grumble.

This scene - the neighbor moving in - feels similar to an early scene in another Fontaine movie, "The Constant Nymph."

Jourdan has quite the head of hair.
Re "The Constant Nymph," Jourdan even looks a bit like a young Charles Boyer.

Just what I was going to say! I used to confuse the two men but now I know I like Louis Jourdan better for some reason.
I also prefer this, slightly quieter little girl than the one she created for "Constant Nymph."

Topbilled, would you like Andrea and me to pause for ten minute so you can catch up. Andrea, is that okay with you?
