CBS reporter David Pogue recounts his trip in the same sub and talks about various scenarios of safety protocols and what might have gone wrong. Really interesting. One thing he was told on his trip is that there are large fishing nets that were cut loose which the sub could get entangled in. He said if that happens there is no other vessel that could rescue them. Also, if they lost power or are stuck at the bottom it could become very cold in the sub. He said the night before his trip that he was very nervous thinking about what could gone wrong. Oh...and there was a lawsuit where an employee said that the company's method for determining if the vessel was safe was insufficient. Basically, it would tell you when it was about to have an issue vs scanning the sub before hand and then determining if it were safe to use. There seems like it is impossible to have a good ending to this story. Terrifying to think of being on that sub. www.msn.com/en-us/money/news/lawsuit-company-s-insufficient-testing-of-titanic-sub-put-passengers-in-potential-extreme-danger/ar-AA1cP8q5?ocid=AMZN

this schtootz Stockton Rush ignored the warnings of numerous experts warning him of potential catastrophy....
1. navagational ability of submersible poor, dependent on data from mother ship
2. big wup stockton charged his now late passengers 250,000 each. what a greedmeister
3. sub not motorized
this is a putz who said that he didn't want "50+ year old white guys piloting his submersible". well maybe they coulda done a better job than HE did piloting it.
it is perhaps a poetic justice that he was onboard his own sub during a tragedy of his own making.
I hope they find his sorry ass down there alive if only to prosecute the sonafabitch for criminal negligence.

I don't know if you watched the video from CBS Sunday but you are right, there was not much navigation involved in the sub. It relied on text from the ship above for navigation and even that wasn't fool proof. In the video, they were lost from over 2 hours and never got to the Titanic. I just heard that clip from Stockton talking about not wanting to hire older, white ex-military guys but wanted to inspire or be inspired by? younger people. Maybe more experienced workers would have pushed back on some of the problems and safety concerns. Also in that video, the reporter talks about Stockton was piloting a trip "next summer" which would be this one. Eerie.

Did not know that. And now her husband has met a similar fate: "Wendy Rush, wife of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who has been missing in a submersible after embarking on an expedition to see the wreckage of the Titanic, is related to victims of the Titanic sinking, The New York Times reported Wednesday. Wendy Rush is the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Straus, according to The New York Times. The Strauses were first-class passengers, with Isidor being a co-owner of the department store R.H. Macy. The Strauses died together when the Titanic sank in April 1912. Reports indicate that Isidor Straus was offered a seat, he did not want to leave the ship until all women and children had been removed. Ida Straus was also offered a lifeboat seat while the ship was in peril, but she refused to leave her husband, who was still on the boat. "

apparently there was a catastrophic pressure failure and the front dome imploded killing all instantly... this is why you leave oceanographic exploration to the true experts like Admiral Harriman Nelson, designer and builder of the fabulous nuclear submarine seaview and founder of the famed Nelson Institute of Marine Research.

In addition, for me this is one boring story that the MSM is vastly overcovering. My wife said 'but 5 people may die'. My response; 5 people just died in a car crash somewhere in the USA. Much ado about next to nothing.

You're correct that the fact they paid that type of money to take such a risk with a craft that was untested and experimental is key to media coverage.

the whole thing was just a greedy moneymaking operation by big wup stockton rush and even now they have not the decency to take down their site... and don't hold your breath waiting for oceangate to refund all that money to the families of the deceased.
