Are you a Burns and Allen aficionado? It's one of my all-time favorite series. I've been trying to remember which episode features a certain plot. It's the one where a quiz show calls with a question. Gracie hangs up the phone, then calls back to say "Woodrow Wilson." Toward the end of that episode, Harry von Zell says "I'm going outside to wait for Einstein." Or something like that. Yeah, I remember the episode but not it's title or broadcast date. Gracie insisted she won the prize but the quiz show said no. George(if I recall) got them to finally give it to her by telling them to just call Gracie and explain it to her. Another favorite of mine(of the many) was a show that centered around her trying to get George to buy her a mink coat. Well, of course he did wind up buying it for her, and at the end of the show when they walked out to say their good-byes, she was wearing the coat. She then went on to thank George for getting her the coat and mentioned how beautiful it looked. George replied with, "Yeah. Who would have thought you could get something so beautiful from a beady eyed little creature that looks like a weasel?" To which Gracie answered.... "Oh, don't be so hard on yourself George. I always thought you were good looking." Sepiatone

One of my favorite exchanges between George and Gracie: Gracie says to George: "Mrs. Grosvenor's husband said she could choose between having her face lifted and the Bahamas. I said 'start with your Bahamas, and if that works out alright, you can have her face lifted too!'"

One reason I wanted to start this thread is because I had read a user review on Amazon where the buyer said DVDs are dying. And I suppose to some extent, that's true...and it explains a few things.
First, it explains why shows like The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet are finally getting all their seasons released on DVD by the Nelson family, before this particular market vanishes.
It also explains why studios are re-releasing some shows on DVD at the last minute in new packaging, to rake in additional profits from this business model before DVD manufacturing is discontinued and everything is made available only on streaming platforms.
If DVDs are dying and we're getting these rare releases or last-minute rereleases then this is the time to stock up on some classics, provided that DVD players will still be manufactured for a few more years.
A few weeks ago I bought the complete series, repackaged, of the original Charlie's Angels. It was 19.99 for all 115 episodes. I bought this one for nostalgia, since I remembered being old enough to watch the last two seasons featuring Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts. I never did see the first three seasons which had Kate Jackson.
I am debating buying the complete series of the original The Equalizer. This was a show starring Edward Woodward that aired on CBS from 1985 to 1989, my teenage years. My mother wouldn't allow my sister or me to watch it, because I think she felt it was too violent (and probably she was right). But as I was looking over the list of guest stars, a lot of Broadway actors since the show was filmed in New York, I am thinking it is something I may enjoy since I enjoy the Naked City TV series and I also like WiseGuy which has an urban crime scene from a specific period.
I am also debating buying the complete series of The High Chaparral since I'm a western fan, but I don't own Rawhide yet and maybe I'd rather purchase Rawhide first. To be continued...LOL

My debate is about whether it will have a blu-ray release. I wouldn't worry about the players. 4k players are backward compatable.(which means they play DVD's and Blu-rays. 4K needs a lot of bandwidth. Sep mentioned KungFu it's on DVD at Amazon for 35$.

Here is my small, weird collection. Some of these aren't "classic," to be sure:
The Phil Silvers Show (All seasons) Dexter's Laboratory (Season 1) Get Smart (Season 1) The Aquabats! Super Show! (Season 1)
SeaQuest DSV (Season 1)
Columbo (Season 1-3 I think) Mystery Science Theater 3000 (I have so many of these that it is hard to keep track) Quantum Leap (Season 3)

Does anyone organize their DVD collections by genre?
I keep all my western TV shows on one shelf. All the family dramas on another shelf. All the sitcoms on a shelf. All the crime dramas on their own shelf. And all the soaps on a shelf...these include primetime soaps and some daytime soaps that believe it or not have had DVD releases.
I just realized I don't buy sci-fi shows or horror anthology shows, though I do enjoy some of them.

I don't get that persnickety. Mostly due to limited shelf space. But due to their jewel cases smaller size I do keep my CDs organized like that. Top two shelves jazz, third shelf Blues, four, five and six holds the rock. And all in alphabetical order. All my classical is kept in a separate rotating CD holder(from the Bombay Company) Sepiatone

I am running out of shelf space, so this is keeping me in check and preventing me from a lot more impulse buys! LOL
I am supposed to receive the 9th season of the original Hawaii Five O today, along with a complete set of The Father Dowling Mysteries. Yes, Father Dowling was an impulsve buy...but it was on sale. I figure that even if half the episodes are cheesy, I am sure to like Mary Wickes' performances as the priest's sardonic housekeeper. I really enjoy the British series Father Brown which is on BritBox...and my guess is that Father Dowling which I vaguely remember airing in the late 80s and early 90s, is an American imitation of Father Brown. Tom Bosley left his recurring role on Murder She Wrote to play Father Dowling, and he's always entertaining.

Update...I did receive season nine of Hawaii Five O yesterday plus The Father Dowling Mysteries. I am going to save Father Dowling and company for a rainy weekend. I've already watched four episodes from S9 of HFO and it's a trip to see Danny looking younger and thinner than he does in S11. I have been enjoying these episodes, they are above average but I think I am biased in favor of S10 and S11.
The later seasons forced the producers and writers to be a little more inventive, since they had already done so many of the more routine crime themes to death...and because they had to experiment more with the basic formula to keep things fresh, I find those later seasons more original and better made. What I am seeing in S9 are some sleepy performances, scripts with an overabundance of cliches and plot tropes that seem uninspired. Even the method actor guest stars are struggling to make some of it exciting for viewers.
I will continue to watch all of S9 and hope there are some pleasant surprises ahead, but so far, it seems to pale in comparison to S10 and S11.

So I have to share a story...About two weeks ago, the complete series of Mayberry R.F.D. was released on DVD. Fans of The Andy Griffith Show and its spinoff have been waiting forever for this. Season 1 had been released on disc over a decade ago, but seasons 2 & 3 were never made available.
People were excited when there was an announcement this spring that the whole set would become available in June.
As expected, the price was somewhat steep...around 70 bucks. On Father's Day weekend, there was a limited time sale where the price was knocked down to 40. I put it in my Amazon shopping cart but got distracted, and when I came back to finish shopping a few hours later, it was sold out.
I had to wait a few days before it was available again, by now of course the price was back up to 70. But it still kept selling out even at the full price. People really-really-really want to own this whole series!
Anyway, on Monday, during my lunch...I thought okay I will check to see if the price has gone back down. And to my surprise there was another limited time sale and it was back to 40 dollars. So I didn't fool around, I quickly put it in my cart and finalized that purchase in about two minutes flat!
When I got off work, I went back on Amazon and of course it was sold out again. So I was lucky that I purchased it when I did during that short window of opportunity. I hope the episodes are as good as everyone claims. I hope it's worth all the effort I have put forth to own this series. LOL
