Tarzan's Revenge coming from Fox really jumped out for me. I'd forgotten about that one. I wonder how the rights thing was hashed out with MGM. Glenn Morris was no Johnny Weissmuller, that's for sure. Re: Fading Fast's point about Andy Hardy and Nancy Drew, it seems Blondie and Torchy Blaine were also just getting under way, though maybe slewed to an older audience. I chuckled when I noticed Columbia's The Terror of Tiny Town. Years ago an older couple of my acquaintance, when they found out I liked older movies, apparently had some kind of pent-up need to talk about that film. At that point I hadn't seen it so they were more than happy to fill me in. I never really warmed up to the movie but I loved their enthusiasm. Overall, I think my personal favorite of the year is George Cukor's Holiday. Yes, it feels stagey and set-bound, but I never get tired of watching it. Grant and Hepburn are wonderful and Lew Ayers is also a standout with his remarkably unsentimental portrayal of her alcoholic brother. I find it hard to believe he wasn't nominated that year. Great call on Ayers' performance in "Holiday."
Glenda Farrell is a ton of fun as Torchy. The movies are what they are, but she has so much personality, you can watch them simply for her performance.
