Hi:
Is anyone interested in re-starting the TCM Programming Challenge? Frankly, I miss it and thought I would "take the temperature" of others on this board to see what they thought.

I think it's a fun idea. It's a lot of work and I always admired people who participated every year.
Maybe instead of programming for a whole month, it could be scaled down to programming for a week...that would still give participants a chance to explore different themes and do full-day schedules that may coincide with star birthdays and studio anniversaries.
Thoughts...?

Thoughts...? Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is the TCM Programming Challenge? It is where members play the role of 'TCM programmer' by creating a schedule of films that fall under a general theme...but they also develop individual sub-themes that may include star birthdays, holidays and other topics they'd like to explore. They choose their own Star of the Month to weave into this. And each day follows a 24-hour timeline, meaning they have to research the running times of the titles they've selected.

TB:
It is programming a single week (not a month!) Wow! Can't even imagine programming a month. But, yes, it's a bit of work but it's really fun. It was originally started years ago by someone who wanted people on the TCM Message Boards to have a chance to "Play TCM Programmer" for a week. The cleverness of many of the schedules cannot be believed and, yes, it's true, TCM often "borrowed" some of the ideas of the TCM Challenge Programmers. Summer's a tough time for to hold the Challenge since people are on vacation but perhaps Fall, 2023 would be a good time.

I thought it was a whole month's worth of schedules...that would have been grueling!
Yes, a week of scheduling is do-able. And yes, some of the efforts on the old board were very creative!

It was fun. I participated once, and won. Much to my chagrin, that meant I had to manage the next one! So I never entered again. (My career was as a performing arts programmer, it was too much like work for me.) After my one time, I just enjoyed other people's schedules.
But I might try it here, after I see what the rules might be.

I never participated in the challenges, but I always enjoyed reading the entries!

Maybe Carolyn could moderate/manage the scheduling competition, so that the winner didn't have to oversee the next one!

Yes, maybe set some parameters. I can't remember how they used to do it on the TCM boards...was it programming for a whole week, or a whole month?

Here's my nickel-ninetyeight.
The TCM Programming Challenge was for a week, beginning at 6:00am Sunday and ending the following Sunday at the same time. I suggest we keep it to that amount of time.
Since we are no longer on the TCM site, I'd be interested in seeing the challenge opened up to more premieres. I mean, if we are going to make believe we are programmers, why not also make believe that money is no object?
Since Lonesomepolecat was the last winner, if so willing, I'd say we should continue right along with the process of the last winner creating the special challenges for the next one.

(Incidentally, I see that lydecker had already told me it's a week's worth of programming...so if I had gone back and reviewed the entire thread, I wouldn't have repeated asking that question!)
