A sweet story about a young girl from lindaz on the IMDb
Raised by a flamboyant and irresponsible mother, Ziggy Brennan (Mona Freeman) gets involved in hustling men at a young age. She hangs around with a wild crowd and learns her "street smarts" first from her mother who wants everyone to think they are sisters, then from an older man. He starts teaching her his tricks of the trade and she falls right in line with his crooked ways. Then one night she meets a tall, handsome, honest farmer boy who's a soldier and they fall in love. While he's away fighting the war, she discovers she's pregnant.
I won't say more so as not to spoil it. But I found the ethics that this film teaches to be something sorely missing in our films nowadays. Suffice it to say that even though she goes through some heartbreaking experiences, she reforms her ways and there is a happy ending.
Underrated movie from ashkakaylee on the IMDb
I saw this film last night on Youtube and it's remarkably good. Mona Freeman gives a stunning performance as Ziggy, the young and troubled heroine of the movie.
This is the kind of part that somebody like Jean Simmons or even Audrey Hepburn might have fitted well into. And Mona Freeman's acting here stands up to anything they might have done in the part. The rest of the cast are equally fine.

This sounds like a really good one. Also you just have to love a movie where the female lead is named Ziggy.
Mona Freeman is one of those actresses who flies under the radar, but she delivers impressive and natural performances. She all but steals the movie "Dear Ruth" from star Joan Caulfield and is outstanding as the foil to Jan Sterling's brutal femme fatale in the "Flesh and Fury."
Plus, she's cute as all heck.

Yes, cute as heck is a good term for her! The three 'Dear' movies are fun...William Holden and Joan Caulfield are only in DEAR RUTH and DEAR WIFE. By the time Paramount made DEAR BRAT, Holden and Caulfield were busy with other films and Mona Freeman takes center stage in the last one.
I think what impresses me about her is how at a young age, she could successfully play older, but yet when scenes require her to be younger, as in the beginning sequence of THAT BRENNAN GIRL, she is equally convincing.
One thing I was slightly trepidatious about going into THAT BRENNAN GIRL was how much older Jimmy Dunn's character is...I thought, this may seem a bit jarring, a guy in his mid-40s getting involved with a teen girl, and she only ages to about 20 in the movie. But somehow it works, and it actually doesn't feel as contrived as Audrey Hepburn's pairing with Gary Cooper in LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON. Plus the filmmakers have the sense to not really show Freeman and Dunn become overtly romantic. The final scenes suggest they have a future, but it is done subtly (probably to overcome any issues with the production code office).

A nice restored print of THAT BRENNAN GIRL is available on YouTube.
Hope you all have a chance to join us this Sunday!

Mona Freeman holds her own against Robert Mitchum as the gal that gets dumped for the unstable Jean Simmons in the noir Angel Face (1953).

This was producer-director Alfred Santell's last motion picture. It was a good one to finish on.
