I was just watching an old Rosie O'Donnell Show on YouTube and as a musical guest she had British actress Sian Phillips from the time she was performing Marlene in New York (late 90's). It was a great example of a woman doing an impersonation of a woman, which we've discussed before, so I thought I'd post it. This isn't the Rosie appearance; don't know the actual source. On the Rosie show she said that the show had been written for her and I can see why.

I just ran across this guy while watching the MGM musical Broadway Rhythm (1944), in which he had a bit with Nancy Walker. His name was Dean Murphy and IMDb says he was a nightclub impressionist. The movies often scouted novelty acts to act as filler, especially in comedies and musicals, and that appears to be what happened here. I thought of posting it here because at the 2:50 mark he does Bette Davis, complete with the wild gesturing and eye rolling which we associate with the later impressionists mentioned above. He also ends with Eleanor Roosevelt. He mostly does male stars such as Ronald Coleman and Jimmy Stewart so there's nothing specifically gay here; it's just a curiosity but I thought I'd share.

Season 16 of RuPaul's Drag Race is underway and one of the contestants is New York-based Plasma, who just recently posted this fantastic video, which should be of interest to movie fans and drag fans both. This is the Mickey/Judy "Let's put on a show" spirit taken to the max, with an assist from some very talented friends. Brava!
By way of comparison, a poster on YouTube (Boba) has put together these side-by-side clips to illustrate how cleverly Plasma and Co. adapted the number.

Just watched again THE MAGIC CHRISTIAN starring Peter Sellars and Ringo Starr. Also appearing are Roman Polansky, Laurence Harvey, Christopher Lee, John Cleese and others. I hate to give away a spoiler, but this movie is so bad, it isn't funny. It can't decide if it's a series of skits or if someone hid the script. It's worth one time watch to see all these stars do their thing which is why I looked at it again--it's still a bad movie (written while on drugs?)
The surprise is MAD ABOUT THE BOY. Melvin, maybe you can post the song, sung to Roman Polansky. Even after I know who is in drag, I stare and cannot see that it is this male actor until he removes the wig and speaks. I think first time viewers won't guess who it is.

I think first time viewers won't guess who it is. Your wish is my command. I selected the clip from YouTube which doesn't give the name away at the start. ((SPOILER: Watching it again, I was struck by how much this person looks like Ingrid Bergman, which is ironic because they appeared in a very high-profile movie together a decade earlier.)) IMDb lists Miriam Karlin as dubbing the voice of the "transvestite cabaret singer". I agree that the movie is a mess, but I've gone back to it a few times too, to confirm my initial reaction. It was based on a book by Terry Southern, who specialized in outrageous material like this. He was also responsible for Candy (1968), another all-star, over-the-top freak show from the year before.
