Never watched those two. Occasionally watched Casey and Kildare. A medical show I liked was The Nurses.
Never heard of this "forgotten" series. Sounds interesting, with Conway in the older mentor role and Bethune playing the mentee. I see it was filmed in New York, not Hollywood, which means they probably were able to attract a lot of Broadway stage actors for the guest or recurring roles. Doesn't look like it's ever been released on home video.

Another "forgotten" '70's doctor series is RAFFERTY, starring Patrick McGoohan. Only lasted from Sept. 28 to Nov. 28, 1977. My ex and I liked this show about an irascible but brilliant doctor. Many now claim it could have been the precursor to the medical series HOUSE as there were similarities in Hugh Laurie's and McGoohan's characters. Sepiatone

It probably depends on which of the pair's storylines you prefer. I think of MARCUS WELBY, M.D. as smaller with intimate plots, whereas MEDICAL CENTER seems to reflect the outsized facility its doctors operate in - no pun intended - which presented a broader range of problems. So broad as to actually have influenced a law which first was enacted in California and later went national... It concerned job discrimination against those with catastrophic conditions, but I don't recall the name of the episode(s?), TopBilled. Re: "I will probably buy the whole first season and starting going through them, then I will be able to let you know which one affected a change in laws."
I never did discover the name of that MEDICAL CENTER episode(s?), TopBilled, so how about this one instead: www.imdb.com/title/tt0645334/?ref_=nm_flmg_eps_tt_1 If I correctly recall, Gary Lockwood - not too late of 2001: a space odyssey - brought his salty spaceman to the episode.

Hopefully you can eventually locate a ( TV LAND?) marathon of the series where episodes were interspersed with Chad Everett's recollections of the show.

I used to watch MEDICAL CENTER regularly. But for some reason the only episode I recall is one in which one of the hospital's doctors beat up his wife after seeing her perform in a "smoker" someone showed at a bachelor party. The wife was played by Joan Van Ark.
