That one sounds like it rates the three verys in the title. It sounds a little like the kind of dark imaginings Louis Bayard has done in literature, with Mister Timothy, following (Tiny) Tim Cratchit as an adult experiencing the worst London has to offer and The Pale Blue Eye, in which young cadet Edgar Allen Poe is enlisted to help solve a bloody murder at West Point in which the heart was removed. I wonder how much of the "pygmy" story is credible because that Anderson is miles away from Danny Kaye, who himself was probably also miles away from the real Anderson.

I watched The Pale Blue Eye on Netflix. I sort of liked it, particularly the parts that verge on horror (that strange ceremony near the climax). And I thought Gillian Anderson was a hoot as the doctor's wife.
Harry Melling, who plays Poe, is an excellent actor. I've seen him on stage in London several times: in The Hothouse (Pinter); Hand to God; and as Edgar in King Lear.

Hello Swithin -- I was wondering if you were planning on seeing the new play about Oscar Levant? Sean Hayes from Will & Grace stars.as Levant. He seems a surprising choice, sort of the opposite of Levant, chirpy and perky. I wonder if theater-goers even know who Oscar Levant is anymore. www.nytimes.com/2023/04/24/theater/good-night-oscar-review-sean-hayes.html
