The Rolling Stones label released "Brian Jones Presents The Pipes of Pan at Joujouka" in 1971, two years after his death. I always wondered if that was supposed to be him at the front; looks like his hair.

A big part of any new album release was getting to hold it in your hands and check out the cover art and liner notes. It was never the same with CD's. Any favorites? I Love Melvin, I was going to wait until posting the following on the day The Ten Commandments was to be screened but, unless I overlooked, Charlton Heston's star doesn't include the 1956 epic this month... The eponymous release's front cover art made me think that the Charlton Heston and Anne Baxter characters got the Mesoamerican treatment:

Led Zeppelin IV (8 November 1971)
It seems a researcher has gotten to the bottom of the 52 year old mystery of the name of the man on the album cover. Meet Lot Long, a Wiltshire thatcher.
from the article at The Guardian: "The original image was discovered in a Victorian photograph album titled: “Reminiscences of a visit to Shaftesbury. Whitsuntide 1892. A present to Auntie from Ernest.” It contained more than 100 architectural views and street scenes together with a few portraits of rural workers from Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset.
Beneath the stooped man’s image, the photographer wrote: “A Wiltshire thatcher.” Further research suggests the thatcher is Lot Long (sometimes Longyear), who was born in Mere in 1823 and died in 1893. At the time the photograph was taken, Long was a widower living in a small cottage in Shaftesbury Road, Mere."

Think Lot Long might have appreciated the Celtic folk of the third track:

BunnyWhit, furthering your praise of the following album with its cover of most excellent taste:
I can be found sneaking seconds of this song at the banquet table when no one else is looking.

Thank you for the info on the stick man, BunnyWhit... Think Lot Long might have appreciated the Celtic folk of the third track: This is the only song Led Zeppelin ever recorded with a guest vocalist. And I fear she may have not gotten much more for her involvement than the symbol below But what a gorgeous song
