You should know that those obits are done years ahead of time, long before they pass away. That's why they pop up so soon after the announcement. They are updated over the years if they do anything noteworthy. So all your favorite stars of today already have their obits done. Just waiting for the moment.
And the lowest on the totem pole do they updating. Normally someone just out of college who hadn't even heard of these people. So they can only connect them to a film they might have heard of, or some movie that seems to have been a big hit.
Its not as if some film historians got together and write the obit after some long conference. its basically treated as some throwaway article. So I wouldn't get too concerned about the way its done.
