Reginald Owens, There are days on TCM that Owens is in as many as 4 films. Wide range of characters: leading man in the original THE LETTER with Jeanne Eagels to the admiral in MARY POPPINS, the evil bad guy in the Gable/Young CALL OF THE WILD.

Not long ago I had watched DARBY'S RANGERS (1958) and he has a supporting role in that picture, alongside James Garner. I was surprised to see him in it. Most of the character actors from his generation, who made their mark in the 1930s, would have either passed way, retired or retreated into television. But there he was in an "A" studio picture doing his thing, and great as ever. He continued to make films into the early 1970s.

Good pick NoShear! I just love Frank Morgan. "Shop Around the Corner," is one of my favorite movies and although the whole cast is great, his part is essential. In his final scene when he asks Toby to go to dinner with him -- well that's my big Christmas moment, every year.
Thanks, Andrea Doria!! My best-received posts with you usually are Christmas-related it seems, so it's safe in assuming the Holidays season is something you can't wait to arrive every year... Sorry for the interruption: I will let you get back to your regularly scheduled Hallmark program.

Another I thought of: Vera Miles. Of course, most people would probably associate her with Hitchcock's "Psycho," but she had a fairly illustrious career in films other than that. I enjoyed her in 'The Man who Shot Liberty Valance,' among others. I caught her in an episode of 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents,' and she was the standout.

Vera Miles did a lot of good guest work on TV crime dramas in the 70s. What impresses me about her is that she took difficult roles that would have scared off other actresses. But she was always up to the challenge and had the skill to put it across, even when the character was mostly unlikable.

Speaking of guest stars on 70s crime shows...an actress I really love is Zohra Lampert. Her guest appearances on Hawaii Five O are excellent. And last night i watched an episode of The F.B.I. in which she turned up as a kidnapping victim. She was superb. She will sometimes use slight method acting tricks, but I find her very engaging, and she is incapable of giving a bad performance.
