An app I used to have was filled with "do it yourself" streams. There were several Old Time Radio streams going. You could choose between detective , adventure, serial, comedy, etc... Johnny Dollar was by far my favorite.
There was one series "Romance of the Ranchos", that was sponsored by a loan company here in Los Angeles. Each episode would be a story about the early days of Southern California. Every once in a while, they would mention a location I recognized. Got good information from that show.

I’m with you on “Johnny Dollar” — it’s probably my favorite Old Time Radio show. While I think all of the actors who played Dollar did a good job, for me Bob Bailey was the quintessential insurance investigator with the action-packed expense account.
I especially enjoy the five-part “Dollar” shows that were on for about a year during Bailey’s run. Just this week, I listened to “The Nick Shurn Matter,” which takes place around Christmas.

And since you couldn't "show" a movie on radio the way you could on TV, radio restagings on Lux Theater was the next best thing before VHS came along.
Your comment reminded me of one of the funniest movie scenes ever, from Woody Allen's Radio Days. Mia Farrow, playing a dumb blonde, is talking to Danny Aiello's mother, brilliantly played by Gina DeAngeles.
Mia: "I'd just do anything to get on radio. I'd be happy to give the weather report... or interview people. I think I'm a natural. I'm a great dancer."
Danny Aiello's Mother: "But you can't dance on radio!"
Mia: "I know, 'cause they can't see you."

When I was a wee lad, I remember my mother listening to Ma Perkins and Our Gal Sunday. And of course she listened to Joe Franklin (1926-2015). Years later I had the pleasure of introducing Joe at an event in NYC.
Here's a link to Joe's website, which features some highlights of his radio show.
