Happy New Year to all. The wife and I both got very sick (not Covid but RSV), so we had to cancel the small gathering we were planning with friends. Both of us are feeling a lot better today. I still made the lentil soup which is an Italian tradition, using a recipe my mother-in-law showed me.

For this holiday (and the surrounding days), we have on our viewing schedule the New Year-related After The Thin Man, Radio Days, Repeat Performance, Holiday, The Moon’s Our Home, and It’s Love I’m After. All of these are annual favorites at our house! (Bachelor Mother, which covers both Christmas and New Year’s, may also make an appearance.)

I watch It's Love I'm After ever year. Both Howard and Davis loved making this film after the two dramas they made (especially Of Human Bondage). The film is the first for Davis and DeHavilland, leading to their long-term friendship. Davis really helped the less experienced DeHavilland get her sea-legs, as well as dealing with the Warner Bros suits (especially Jack Warner). Also Eric Blore as a man-servant, playing the same character as in the two RKO Fred\Ginger films. Blore uses the same expressions, dictation and even some of the dialog. E.g. how he says 'sir'. |
