Four weeks is slow for movieland, but fast in the real world. Heck, in movieland lovers often falls in love in a day or less. That drives me nuts, but stories demand it.

This is such a great performance from Celia Johnson. It's her movie. It could be re-worked into a one woman performance on the stage. I've wondered how this would work as a story about two straight-identified men (both married to women) who have these encounters and resulting feelings. Feelings that had been pushed down but were still being awakened suddenly.
Though I think movie audiences are still very homophobic...part of what makes the story resonate so well is the forbidden aspects of the love and how it goes against the societal grain.
